Ekkula is a story of connection - born between Berlin and Uganda and brought to life through color, craftsmanship, and collaboration. Founded by Sophie and Felicitas, the brand began with a shared fascination for bold design and meaningful craftsmanship. During her travels and research trips in Uganda, Sophie discovered Evelyne’s handcrafted bags and was immediately drawn to their vibrant colors and distinctive shapes. When Felicitas saw one of the pieces, the vision for ekkula naturally came to life. At the heart of the brand is Evelyne, a talented artisan based in Central Uganda. A mother of two and entrepreneur since 2019, she first began creating beaded jewelry while at university. Today, she handcrafts every ekkula bag with care and precision, ensuring each piece is unique. Her work is inspired by global fashion influences, custom collaborations, and her own creative intuition. Using locally sourced plastic beads, Evelyne transforms everyday materials into striking handbags that celebrate individuality and craftsmanship. Studio ekkula is a Berlin-based brand connecting people across the world through bold colours. Each handbag is handcrafted in Uganda by Evelyne, an artisan who leads a team of women creating expressive, joyful designs. The name ekkula nods to Uganda, the “Pearl of Africa”, and to the beads themselves, each one a tiny pearl in its own right.
